Richmond

LaDiff

In my town, when you want modern furniture, the only large selection in Richmond is LaDifference. EQ3 used to be here but closed. IKEA is over an hour away although I hear rumors of one coming closer to Richmond in the next year.

We’re still on a sofa hunt. I don’t think the friend at the furniture store is going to be able to find something in our style where she works. We went to LaDiff today and sat on everything. There’s always that problem of form over comfort. We want something streamlined but today, in our butt testing, they weren’t all that comfy.

We fell in love with this sectional but it’s too large and they don’t make it in just a sofa without the chaise. It’s exactly what we want if only…

I adore this sofa. Super expensive and not something you want to curl up and watch a movie on:

Sofa hunting was a big disappointment so, we browsed around and I took some pics.

plastic but a great diy idea for any old chair

so many colorful chairs

fell in love with this acrylic side table!

always a goofball

it’s what’s for dinner!

Warm weather, walks, light snacking dinner. Today has been a good day.

Oh, and this is my favorite house on Monument Ave:

We also discovered a gorgeous courtyard with a secluded garden beyond. Want.

after the monsoon

We just had a crazy storm here in Richmond and as soon as people started tweeting about rainbows, I put on some pants, grabbed my camera, and ran around the neighborhood again. These are mainly on Monument and West Ave.

It’s ooooover!

Christmas, that is! It’s over! Not to sound like a grinch or anything because I really do love the holiday but, I feel like I’ve been on autopilot for the past week or two – determined to not let things get to me – kinda disconnected. I didn’t get online all of last week, except for email and barely looking at Twitter on my Blackberry. My Google reader had almost 1500 posts (almost done catching up). Now that all the presents have been given and there’s no more pressure to cook, I feel a major weight lifted. The apartment was cleaned up today and I’ll probably take the decorations down some time this week.

Christmas was a major success this year. I’ll do a gift post soon. The bf done good and he and my family were very pleased with what I got them. I hope Santa was good to you!!!

For the past few years, my parents and I have gotten Chinese take-out for Christmas. You have no idea what a relief that is. Yes you do. Isn’t this the most exhausting yet rewarding holiday? After all family obligations were done, we’ve been pretty much curled up, snacking and relaxing.

It snowed  on Christmas! The bf and I took a blustery walk around the neighborhood last night. We also got bundled up to get the enormous boxes and trash out of here and took another stroll this afternoon. Here are some pics:

I somehow miss all the good lights.

Here’s a pic of some good lights- stolen from Richmond gal Parasol Party

I peeked into a lot of windows

he always does a demented smile for pictures. ugh.

+ & –

  • The bf will indeed be in town for New Years Eve so, I took matters into my own hands and made reservations at Acacia. We’ve wanted to go for so long and they’re doing a 4-course dinner for NYE. It was voted restaurant of the year in March. I. Cannot. Wait. Now, what to wear?!
  • This is an oil painting! Click here and here for more! By Korean artist Kwang-ho Lee.

  • Super easy and inexpensive Christmas ornament tutorial. My mom and I used to make these when I was a kid and the varieties are endless.

  • Okay, this just cracks me up… especially when Oprah starts strutting.

(for you Jen!)

first snow

by Lara on December 13, 2010

in geek

The first snow just hit Richmond, VA. I walked around my parents’ yard and took some pictures. They have 3 small ponds and my dad built the house after ski-lodge plans 35 years ago. I grew up here and come every day to take care of my mom and help with my dad’s company. It’s a little oasis in the city. When I was little, every time it snowed, I would pack a “survival kit”, bundle up, and walk along the creek (overflow from the ponds) in the ravine behind all the houses and end up at Mrs. Green’s deck on Falling Creek Reservoir. I’d sit out there and eat cheese and pretend I was an adventurer.

the creek starts in that left corner

the middle pond is a mess

my dad’s garden and grapevines
