Welp, I’m addicted.
After my first successful day of thrifting a few weeks ago, I’ve managed to go 4 more times. One time was a total bust where nothing I tried on fit.
On one visit, I got a crazy idea and bought two excellent on-trend 70s blouses for about $3 a pop and listed them on eBay but no one pounced. That was my $6 test run to see if I’m cut out to be a vintage seller on eBay. Nope. It’s an enormous time-consuming pain in the ass with no guarantee. There’s taking pics, formatting pics, taking a ton of measurements, creating the listing, and paying fees on both eBay & PayPal. Forget it. I’ll take them to this hipster store in Richmond and hope to break even.
On another visit, I found a brand new w/ tags (retail $60) 70s style top-stitch blazer from Gap for $3.
Then this past week, I found two beautiful pairs of grey wool-blend wide-leg trousers. The darker pair is tweed Isaac Mizrahi (for Target), and the others are from Ann Taylor. It was a 50% off day and I got them for a total of $5.25!! I immediately took them to my alteration lady who hemmed them both for $20 because I’m short. Here they are, hemmed and laundered.

I love to sew pretty much anything but despise hemming pants. Plus, I sold my barely-used serger so, I’ll leave pants to the pros.
This is why I’m now in love with thrift stores. You can try things on, prices are ridiculously cheap, there’s the thrill of the hunt and you never know what amazing things you’re going to find! It’s always a surprise. I also saw 3 beautiful wool camel coats for $20 each but they were all waaaay too big. So sad.
