Is it time to think about getting festive? Holiday decorations are in the stores. Ugh. I still have party dresses that have only been worn once so, I refuse to buy any new investment dresses this season. Silvers, greys and blues are a nice way to get out of the black rut, though. (Oh man, that pewter leather jacket is so sweet!) I think I’ll be wearing the purple satin strapless dress I got on killer sale from the Limited this x-mas or New Years. We shall see if there’s anything worth wearing it to.

Look at the details on these dresses!!!

I really like the idea of tulle over sparkles. I think this could translate well in the real world - a super sheer top over a sequin tank… hmmm. I got this really weird mesh top at H&M a few years ago. It’s an odd dark taupe shade, simple with long sleeves but it looks like it’s been pieced together. I really need to find some cheap sparkly black tank top to go under it.

I can’t stand it! I must have these gloves! They would update any old party dress… agh! That’s what my hair is kinda looking like now… only longer and shaggier. This is the first time I’m enjoying a growing out phase… milking the layers for all they’re worth.

The contrast between the Bebe grey wool boucle dress and brown leather corset belt is also an interesting combination. Black and brown is never easy to pull off. This dark  brown usually looks terrible with black but it’s nice with grey. I like a cognac or natural leather work with black as it seems more fresh. That’s why I can’t bring myself to love these Betsey Johnson wedges. On my desktop monitor I thought they were all black but on my brighter laptop, I saw the dark brown trim. Eww! Or are they navy and brown or navy and black? Whatever. I’m over it now.

I really love this lampshade. This lamp is a similar concept, and you get an entire lamp, for less. (The shade is still available at Lekker, which has so many neat things! Everything is unique and expensive and fun to look at.) The marquetry tray makes me happy since I have grand entertaining fantasies. I don’t feel comfortable in patterns but I kinda dig the relaxed bohemian quality of this swimsuit. I also have a lot of outfits that are waiting for this exact skirt! I really need to try harder in my quest for the perfect dark mini before the cold weather is over!

I can’t stand a trench coat. They’re so cliche and all those unnecessary tabs and loops… this version is awesome. It’s streamlined and the glittery metalic sheen would dress up jeans and a t-shirt when out to run a quick errand. I can’t remember what that bracelet is made of. It may even be wood. I do know that the accents are coral and I would be terrified to wear such a delicate thing but it sure is beautiful. Yellow and black is usually a bad idea but it works with this dress. I think the sash is leather, to toughen it up. Oh, and if you can’t tell, bags need some serious hardware! I’ve been carrying around a studded Nine West purse for over 5 years and it still looks great!

This is the perfect damask skirt I mentioned a while back. Sometimes I like a detail more than the whole… like the little jacket in the top left. The pleating is perfect. The giant bow on the little black dress is so much fun too! I’m not a big fan of butterflies in jewelry but that silver cuff bracelet looks both modern and ancient. The earings are ebony inlaid in gold – so delicate and reminds me of the woodwork my father does. Speaking of inlay – check out these intricate Russian floors photographed by Krisatomic (in the blogroll on the right, you really should check her out).

The drinking glass on the bottom right is from the Rosenthal Fornasetti Julia series. It is now discontinued but was hugely popular last year and I was seeing the plates on TV shows everywhere. Stylists went nuts with them. The top right vase with birds is really so beautiful, right on the cusp of that bird silhouette craze - I still love them. I enjoy how the pattern of the teacup creeps into the interior… another tree silhouette I can’t get enough of. Oh… and who doesn’t like a kitty?

This is one of the best floral arrangements I’ve ever seen. Single color arrangements are so elegant and I love the creative idea of delicately wrapping the lilies with a swirling nest of crimped silver wire. I definitely want to try that one day. I also wouldn’t mind a few bottles of single-serving champagne!

Sometimes I wish I had gotten into the habit of saving the info for each thing I’ve cut out. I do remember that the white dress is Chanel from a while ago. I love the flounced hemline and can’t decide if it makes it more formal or casual. The tiny pin with the eyes is an antique. It’s called “Lover’s Eyes” jewelry and you can learn all about these highly romantic, secretive (almost scandalous) miniature paintings here. The blue glass pendant with the bird says “cheer up” and from what I remember, it wasn’t very expensive but of course, I don’t know where it came from now. Those opal rings look magical, like they might hold the secrets of the universe. There is also no reason whatsoever to not be able to make those tassle heels. They sell tassles with larger heads at craft stores… hmm…

I don’t wear gold frequently, but I supose this page speaks to some hidden goddess lurking inside me. I do adore large chainlinks. Unfortunately I will probably never see my own silver version of this necklace ever again since it was accidently left at an ex’s house. Sigh. Oh, the dress is Lanvin.

This Spanish style stucco house is my ideal dream home. I’ve always wanted a home like this with the terracotta tiled roof and gorgeous landscaping. That menu would be perfect for my housewarming party, right? (It’s a shame that Fendi bag got counterfeited so profusely. They were all painfully obvious.)

My entire life, I had kept journals up until my highly valued privacy was violated about 10 years ago. My secret thoughts and desires were being read by an ex when I was away at work. I wondered why he was becoming so passive-aggressive in our day-to-day conversations. Then finally in an argument he revealed that he was threatened by my past, which of course he couldn’t have known about unless… So, I took all my cherished notebooks and in a fit of rage, I ripped them to shreds in our livingroom. I had to protect the remaining privacy of what he had yet to read.

All those years of thoughts usually written when I was snuggled in bed or spending some brooding time at a coffee shop during my goth days, all gone. What was the point of ever trying to write again if there was a chance of that happening once more?

About 5 years ago I started a file folder of pictures I had torn from magazines. Furniture, recipes, hair styles, shoes, gift ideas, clothing, anything I found pretty or interesting or something I aspired for was in this folder. I would pull it out before a shopping trip to remind myself of things to be on the lookout for. It was becomming a bit of a mess and loose bits of paper were getting lost. I finally decided to sit down and neatly cut and paste it all in a small spiral notebook. Thus began my new form of journal keeping. I can look at every picture and know exactly how I was feeling when something inspired me. No revealing words. No brooding. Nothing I want to hide. Everything I want to share. I plan on sharing some pages from my first journal periodically. I finally started a new notebook last month.
