fall fantasy wish-list

I used to keep a journal full of cut out pictures of things I saw in magazines and I’ve shared a ton with you in the past. So, what does a grown woman do on a Wednesday night? Well this grown ass woman sat with her September issues spread out, a pair of scissors, a glue stick, paper and a pen. In all the magazines, I honestly didn’t see too many things that I fell in love with. I enjoyed concepts and styling ideas but not many individual items, except for these.

Oh, and I totally ordered the DKNY Pure perfume. I rubbed every last microbe of scent on my wrist off that magazine strip and couldn’t stop smelling myself. So cozy and comforting and sexy. The bf loves it. Part of the profit goes to a microfinance program for vanilla farmers in Uganda as well. I haven’t given up on my beloved Kenzo Amour… it just needs a little rest.

PS- I can’t spell Gabbana obviously

i <3 lamp

by Lara on October 5, 2009

in decor

This lamp has been one of my favorites for years! It is made from pieces of coconut shell and measures 12″ in diameter, making it perfect for the bedside, or any other place needing some warm accent lighting.

I saw this lamp in a magazine years ago and put it in my picture journal.

It’s along the same lines as this looped ash wood pendant lamp by Tom Raffield that also casts a warm glow. Love love love!

It’s been a while since I did a journal post. In fact, I forgot all about them!  Here are some organic shapes and shades that tickled my fancy over  a year ago. I love the concept of the off-center pale blue vase with the orchid. It’s enamel coated. Enamel has always been a source of fascination with me… the labor involved, the equipment needed, the extreme heat, the fact that it’s so far removed from any crafty endeavor I’ve ever tried my hand at. It’s soft yet cold. My mother has a small collection of cloisonné that I have always loved, which is an entirely different enamel animal. Oh… and this etsy shop is one of my favorites.

The sunken living room at the bottom looks so cozy. Furniture that rests close to the ground is very appealing to me. (I’m dying for a low dining table surrounded by big floor pillows.) All these little accent pieces would fit right in.

I have never seen fresh poppies in real life. The flower shops in Richmond are quite pathetic. This peachy shade of flower is my favorite, especially when found in poppies, peonies, and camilias. The quilt is the traditional Hawaiian technique, a dying laborious art and really the only type of quilt I like. They are crisp and graphic, far from the sloppy quilts we are used to, and like most quilts, each tells a story made with love. I love the modern take on the Chinese Cippendale chair. For some reason, I think those shoes are Gucci and they’re hideous. (Don’t know where my head was at when I clipped them from a magazine.) Orchids must have been huge this season. I can’t ever seem to get them to bloom a second time. The one-piece, low-cut swimsuit is where it’s at. Classy and sexy. Just how I like things.

Can you tell I have the winter blahs? All I want to look at are bright light things.

Serving dishes really get me excited and that sectional dish is adorable. Below it is an amazing cake! It has a lot of detail but is still streamlined. The tedious monotony of making and applying the circles on the fondant is right up my alley for zoning out on a project.  For the life of me, I cannot remember where the 3-D owl plaque came from. It’s made of some type of acrylic and they had other animals as well, like squirrels, in many colors. The pendant is a type of embedded quartz. The pearl ball is a christmas ornament. My mom and I used to make these when I was little (more monotony to zen out to). You take a styrofoam ball, various beads (sequins are fun too), and attach them to the ball with straight pins. Really easy and lots of room for creativity. The Japan poster print is from allposters.com for just $12.99. The color scheme is one of my favorites. I believe the d’Orsay pumps are Manolos. Beautiful place setting, flowers, halter top and Guess bag.

The silver cuff has coral shapes applied. I’m not a big fan of diamond rings. I have a modest antique ring from my grandmother and a few I will inherit but as far as engagement rings go, unlike with Elizabeth Taylor, diamonds have never really brought me luck. I do like the delicate open nature of this ring though. It’s light as air, symbolizes eternity and has a low profile. This would be an ideal right hand ring if you’re not into those door knockers. More d’Orsay pumps in a fun nautical stripe. I loooove this white woven bag but I can’t read that tag or remember who made it. The pendant is another chunk of crystal with a thin chain running through it. The seahorse earrings are dear and so is the off-center singular encased butterfly wing. A lot of people are working with wings on etsy.com these days. I love the silver deer ring but it would probably catch on everything. The Jane Fonda print was from a story on one of the Arquette sister’s homes. It’s controversial and I don’t particularly agree with how she handled that situation but it’s still pretty badass, especially in red monochrome. A breezy lattice bra, bright sunshiny koi fish tee, Steve Madden pumps and a wee blue clutch round it all out. Warmn weather please!!!!

flippin Polyvore!

by Lara on December 17, 2008

in fashion

Well, this is my very first Polyvore set. Now that I know how to use it, it really is a time saver! (I may never bother with my journal again… no, I like magazines too much.) This is the most ideal outfit I could ever imagine at the moment. Sadly, I have insanely expensive taste!

H. Stern ring, chickdowntown.com bracelet, Burberry Prorsum Knight studded bag, La Garçonne top, Helmut Lang leather skinnies, Gabriella Rocha Studio “Anastasia” sandals.

spring shopping by mymilkglassheart

I have wanted that bag for a very long time. Here’s an old journal page with all things tough… That entire Burberry Prorsum outfit is so badass. The satin square “shingles” in the dress, the gloves, the shoes, the bag… hot damn!

The shoes at the top left were from Payless and I actually bought them. They were some of the most uncomfortable shoes I’ve ever owned and I only wore them to a 1 year old’s birthday. Shoes with a cage of straps at the toes and I do not get along. They dig and cut into my tender pups. No fun. The cream dress with the long black sash was from a Newport News catalogue and is still being sold. I have to give them credit around the holiday season and summer for weddings. They have some really classic feminine pieces that are made for a woman with some curves.  I have one dress from them that they’re also still selling. It’s timeless and extremely flattering. These dresses have been tried and tested and I supose that’s why they still have them available. They’re also quite inexpensive and very well made.

The other cream dress has a Frank Lloyd Wright motif on it which I really love. I wish I could find the perfect pair of wide leg cuffed white trousers to wear with platforms and cute tank tops in the summer. More intricate folding detail on the grey wool dress and more laser cut shoes…

After reading about how bad candles are for the air quality in your home, I have been gravitating towards scented oils and reed diffusers. They are really long lasting but make me a bit nervous. They have to be placed somewhere completely safe from being knocked over. Can you imagine the mess? Nothing can replace the romance of a lit candle every once in a while though. I finally found a good sandalwood scent at World Market. It’s rare to find a good one that doesn’t smell musty instead of musky. Yankee Candle’s Midsummer Night is the closest I’ve come to a perfect scent… reminiscent of a man’s cologne. It’s so wrong it’s good!

I obviously have a thing for odd little jackets and clutches. Those little flats with the cut out skulls are swell and I still enjoy the combination of mustard and grey. That strange little black squiggle is a pendant cut from ebony with some pearls attached… a strange shape. I would probably smoosh that delicate cuff bracelet on its first night out.

How one manages to be incredibly busy and lazy at the same time, I have no idea but, it’s an art I have mastered as of late. I haven’t had time or energy to post much recently so, here’s another journal entry.

Yes, I am a victim of large sunglassess… a bit squared off suits me better than the rounded insect eye style. I am still coveting the enameled Lanvin cuff (from last year?). The silver flats are laser cut. Those black platform Mary Janes are so perfect. I love the matte detail of the actual platform. The flapper dresses are velvety and so pretty. They look like they would be a lot of fun to dance in. That collar on the black satin jacket is so great, as well as the silver platform wedges. I would wear those shoes into the ground this coming summer!

I have a clear round acrylic bead necklace and the first night I wore it out, a few people told me they looked like beads used for uhm… a… sexual purpose. Maybe if it had sharp cubes in it as well, I wouldn’t feel so weird about wearing it again! I have really wanted to make a deconstructed knotted up silver chain necklace with multiple strands. I know it’s going to be one of those projects that I need to slowly start accumulating chains for, I just haven’t gotten on the ball for it. That silk floral dress is painfully pretty. Everything else is just saturated with the nicest of details.

That kitten makes me want to cry. My Ringo was about that tiny when I got him and had to bottle feed him every 4 hours for 2 months. Everyone said he wouldn’t make it and now he’s a 28 pound monster cat! (Maybe it was the turkey Gerber baby food I was fortifying his mother’s milk replacer with!)

This page looks like a ton of fun Christmas presents. I barely know what a damn thing is on this page is so, I can’t send you in the right direction and well, this was from a year ago anyhow. Oh, there are the Voluspa Japonica three-wick candles! I have never smelled them before but they are quite large and fairly inexpensive and would make a decadent gift. The poppy print came from AllPosters.com but god help you if you try to find it in the almost 3,000 poppy offerings! I adore poppies and Queen Anne’s Lace like on that pillow. That mirror is so fanciful. Oh, and who doesn’t want a coin purse with a squirrel on it? Really, everything on these two pages appeal to a certain side of me that doesn’t come out very often.

The peacock is a glass serving platter. I don’t know what was going on with the clothing patterns in summer of 07. I was feeling pretty fancy-free I guess! The little tops are constructed with weighty detail, which is what really appeals to me. I still love a long dress in the summer and will forgive a loud pattern if it’s on a bohemian style dress. Round-toe shoes and gold were really doing it for me! (Check out the laser cut edges on those pumps!) The skull vest was from a Delia’s catalogue (still fun to get in the mail – a guilty pleasure) and so was the owl tank. There’s another monocromatic and compact floral arrangement and I love that Central Park pillow! The wood and hinged piece of jewelry is a ring not a bracelet… teeny tiny craftsmanship.

black, white and red all over -

Love love love Neutrino Designs‘ tableware. It’s quirky, modern, science-based and modestly priced for what it is, design wise. The orange heels in the top left are Versace and the straps are dimensional puffy tubes. I’ve always been fearful of dresses like the grey one with the chest ruffles. It seems a bit dangerous - like anyone taller than you could look down and totally see nipple. The details are lovely though. I don’t know how I have managed to garner 4 pairs of leopard print shoes and I rarely ever wear them. I have a pair very similar to these and really want to pair them randomly with purple or electric blue. (The platform craze must end soon!) The little black blazer was from the Delia’s catalogue. I dig the rustic handstitched detail. Of course… the Report Signature Masonic studded heels I have dominatrix dreams about.

Remember cootie catchers? The dress in the top left reminds me of the paper folds that held your destiny. (I think it’s dark denim with silver paint.) I don’t know why I was feeling forties-style dresses like the red shift above and the white ones below. I rarely go anywhere they would be appropriate. If I had an office job though, they would be a staple in my wardrobe. The little jacket/panty set with Swiss dots is so impractical. Yes… I should be blogging in bed with that on, right now! I rarely wear red but those Ray-Ban specs are so graphic and bold. I really like wide sides on glasses. Kind of over pointy toed boots right now.

These two pages from my journal are from around this time last year. Not much has changed. The multi-tone Miu Miu pumps are still being ripped off, although I never saw anyone else do the gem encrusted heel caps. Purple is still huge and feathers are as well.

06/07 is when I fell in love with Lanvin again (the bottom right purple dress). Elber Albaz has been doing beautiful things with architectural flattering pieces and I’m equally excited about his S09RTW collection. Wow.

Check out those sandals at the top center! This style is everywhere now! Oh, and that Dior bag…

The central black outfit is Calvin Klein. I really wanted to replicate this look – a slim chunky black sweater, a tight pencil skirt under a flounced mini mini over opague tights. I never found the crucial components… maybe one day. Black and grey stripes are still huge. I’ve been heavily drawn to them this season and grabbed a bunch of long striped tanks at H&M on clearance. They’ve been peaking from beneath shorter tops for some added interest with skinnies. This page is sparse but just feels cozy.
