I LOVE cold weather shoes! Cozy and stompy and boots! THE BOOTS!  They’re my fave shoe in the whole world! Okay, enough exclamation points.

Do I need any more shoes? Of course not. I actually told myself I wouldn’t get any more shoes this year. Do I like to look? Uh, yeah!

I’ve been looking  a lot actually. I went to DSW recently and I love that most of the display shoes are in my size (6.5) so I wore flats and tried on at least 50 pairs and left with nothing! (pat pat pat on the back)

These are tickling my fancy right now and none of them are all that expensive. Do I break my promise and get a pair (or 2)? Oh geeze! Why do I do this to myself?

I’ve been pining away for flat brown boots for oh… a couple years now?

I have always wanted some authentic brown leather field boots like these Hispars but I can’t see myself spending over $200 on boots. I. Just. Can’t.

Lovely though, right?

So yeah, field boots have been getting more and more popular so I knew my time would come and this year was it!

I first saw these by Born. They’re called the Gilmore.

 They were a killer deal at 6PM and the bf said he would get them for me for Christmas but I knew he needed to act fast. He didn’t and they sold out in my size.

So I found these ALDO Ackah boots and my mom got them for me for Christmas and they just arrived today and I LOVE them. I ordered a 1/2 size up for socks and they’re perfect. Instantly comfy and they’re going to age beautifully.

I can’t wait for Christmas!

I’m getting excited about Fall! Here’s a collection of easy ideas (you know I like easy) to start planning for:

Pumpkin gnocchi and Gorgonzola sauce – I wanted to make these w/ brown butter and sage last year and still have a can of pumpkin in my pantry. Ridiculous. You can just roll the gnocchi on a fork.

If you leave that can in your pantry like me, try a hydrating pumpkin face mask!

I diligently looked at every. single. picture of the Fall 2011 shows on Style.com but was starting to get sick of winter and yearning for sandals and wedges and breezy clothes. We’ve had a few days of 70-degree weather and all I can think about is sunshine and macaroni salad. (I don’t know, it’s a Southern Summer thing for me and I made it and it was delicious.) The fashion weeks are over now so here goes.

Not taking note of major trends for this season since everyone else will have done that by now (look out for orange and plaid). There was a lot of minimalism and a lot of carazay out there.

I will say that the amount of fur shown was infuriating. It is the most senseless fashion atrocity. I excluded a lot of gorgeous outfits because of the inclusion of it. As much as we have evolved, this season is evidence of our devolving when it comes to furry friends. So sad.

So here are my picks I could really see myself wearing (and actually look okay in) – just a few things that caught my eye, and a few completely glamorous things.

Pre-Fall 2011 collections are coming out! I hate when Spring/Summer shows come out because the weather is starting to get cold. Same situation for the Fall/Winter shows. But Pre-Fall comes out when it’s cold and you get new season inspiration during a season where it works NOW.

I’m not going to do a huge single post of all my picks this time. Those kill me. I’ll just share a few looks every now and then as they come in.

• This post about hobbies you kid yourself into thinking you’re going to take on cracked me up. I love crafts (despise scrapbooking though) and I have bought the basics for just about every craft hobby out there. Sewing, painting, drawing, cupcakery, knitting, embroidery, silk screening, sticker making, jewelry making, decoupage, you name it. Sometimes you have to be honest with yourself though, and narrow it down to a few things you really love to do and clean out the rest. I just packed up a grocery bag of my knitting supplies to give away. All I ever managed to complete were scarves. I simply don’t have the time or desire to ever knit again, when I have plenty of scarves already and can buy one for $10.

• The US is overworked.

• I’ve been having an ongoing debate with the bf about rape scenes in movies. I simply cannot watch them. I get a physical reaction – disgust, rage, an angry trembling in my core. We watched The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo recently. I can handle violence in movies but the rape scene was one of the most brutal I’ve seen. But she got revenge!! I don’t care. I have been feeling for a long time that these revenge flicks are just an excuse to have the rape scene. Rich Juzwiak just wrote this. He’s feeling my skepticism as well.

I Spit On Your Grave, in both its 1978 and 2010 incarnations, is a horror film with a deceptively simple premise: a woman named Jennifer Hills retreats to a house in the middle of nowhere all by herself, is sniffed out and raped by locals and then exacts murderous revenge on them. I say that it’s deceptively simple, because what sounds cut and dry has been the fodder for 32 years of debate — is the film merely an excuse to depict a prolonged and brutal group rape sequence with tit-for-tat redemption thrown in to obscure the exploitation, or is it a feminist statement of the enduring strength of woman?

Fall is officially here! My boyfriend and I aren’t sticking to one another when we cuddle, the landlord turned on the radiators, and I pulled out my boots and sweaters. It’s time to get cozay!

I previously wrote that I was having a fashion crisis, that I didn’t have enough cute tops, that I was having a horrible time putting things together, and that I was having donation remorse.

Well, I sat down this evening and dug around on Polyvore finding visual equivalents to the basic items that make up my wardrobe. I felt that I needed to see everything in front of me, so that I could assess what was needed to fill in the gaps.

Here are my favorite basic pieces, already in my possession, that I plan on wearing this Fall.

This is a good representation of shapes and colors I gravitate towards. 2 pairs of jeans are shown but I have plenty more. 2 blazers are shown but I have about a dozen. I won’t even admit how many skirts, dresses, shoes, tights, scarves, bags, clutches and pieces of jewelry I have.

I am ashamed that I was complaining about clothes. I have plenty, considering these are just my basics. These are my go-to pieces that always get me through when I can’t think. I need to shut the hell up. You know what else I need to do? Shop my damn closet, be a little more creative, and a little less lazy.

I think the constant bombardment of new fashion trends (if you’re into keeping up with those things) can make you feel inadequate. For crying out loud, I’ve been following the Spring trends for NEXT YEAR and hemlines and silhouettes are a-shiftin. It makes you feel like everything you have is going to look dated. Then, I started thinking, WHO THE HELL CARES? Classic shapes are always in. Honestly, everything is always in. Seriously. It’s becoming such a joke. I don’t work in the fashion industry in New York. Who the hell am I trying to impress? My life doesn’t require I dress up often at all.

Of course, it’s a lot of fun staying on trend and being current, thinking how you can work new looks into what you already have. I truly enjoy keeping up with new design and fashion shifts but I don’t need to make such a personal connection to it. I have definitely put more focus on getting classic pieces so I have a good core wardrobe.

Last month, for all of September, the ladies at Looks Good From the Back imposed a no-shopping ban on themselves and were successful. I tried to do the same and only bought a few nice pieces at thrift stores and a grey cardigan on clearance at Target and spent about $50 total, including alterations. I am officially stating right now that I will not buy a single article of clothing this October! Let the games begin!
