• So many things going on! I’ve been keeping myself busy and checking things off my to-do list. Maybe I’m crazy but I’ve already started Christmas shopping – mainly little things for the 12 Days of Christmas I’m doing for my mom and bf. I even made the little numbers for the bags!

got a few sheets of scrap booking paper (some had great patterns on both sides) and 2 things of 99-cent ribbon – cut them freehand – they’ll be stapled to brown lunch bags

• I spray painted a Breyer horse! He hangs out on the radiator in the hallway. (I found a lil 1/2 size can of gloss white Rustoleum for $3 at Ben Franklin and used the whole thing.)

• I made that crispy potato roast everyone pinned. Of course I added bacon and topped with cheese later. It was delicious but took almost 2 hours to bake! This is 4 baking potatoes and 4 shallots sliced with their bits stuck between each slice.

• I met up with some bitchin broads in Colonial Williamsburg for brunch!

It was hard not to shove that adorable cup and saucer in my purse!

• My new favorite weekend running around outfit – got the top at Marshalls for $5 over my fave tank from Target, Old Navy Rock Star jeggings and some old as hell coppery woven flats from when Isaac Mizrahi was still at Target.

• So I told you guys I was sewing that dog costume for a “friend”. Well the more I thought about it, the more pissed I got. Thing is, I hadn’t heard from the chick in almost 3 years. I had even deleted her from my Facebook in one of those fits of getting rid of people I never talk to. I had been getting an itch to sew and the bf kinda pressured me to be “nice” when she asked me so I agreed. She never offered to pay me either. Then the feelings of anxiety and anger began to rise in me – imagining all the work and ALL the grey fur that would’ve covered my apartment for days. I also have a ton of stuff I need to do. Then, I saw one of those things on Pinterest that said “A real friend doesn’t only call you when they need something.” That was it. I was done. I told her I couldn’t do it and OMG I feel so much better.   (And she never wrote me back.) So yeah, saying NO is good thing.

• With the heat, I haven’t felt like cooking more than some chicken to top a salad. I managed two big dinners this past weekend and they were easy and delicious! Saturday: small pork tenderloin in oven then glazed with coarse mustard and apricot jam, pan fried and seasoned teeny taters, corn on the cob, bread & butter. Sunday: reheated the last 2 ears of corn, steaks, fried polenta slices popped in a warm oven w/ goat cheese on top and heated up grilled balsamic onions from Trader Joe’s freezer section. Yum! 2 people – 4 plates – $25. Yes, they’re missing green vegetables. Whatever. It was the weekend.

• I’m not doing a separate Birchbox post this month but here’s what I got for August (sorry about bad cell phone pics):

Mom & I did a little spa day with it. The hair mask made our hair silky soft (we have fine hair so we managed to split the sample), the face wash was watery but removed all eye makeup (smelled amazing but left my skin dry and tight), the eye pads were fun but I didn’t suddenly have the eyes of a toddler and NO WAY would I pay $60 for 10 sets. I haven’t tried the blinc eyeliner yet. Will report later!

It’s been a while since I’ve really complained so, here’s a few things that really grind my gears right now:

• Two pairs of jeans I’ve washed and worn countless times (were actually my loose boyfriend style jeans) got washed w/ Purex detergent and dried and now can’t fit above my knees! I’ve LOST weight and everything else fits fine. So yeah. Screw you Purex. All my other clothes washed with it felt stiff and gross. The jeans went to Goodwill where a 10 year old girl may fit into them.
• Can companies who use mint flavoring (gum, mouthwash, toothpaste, etc) just say “wintergreen”, “spearmint” and “peppermint”? I hate wintergreen with the deadly fires of a thousand suns and there’s nothing worse than putting “sparking mint” in your mouth and have it be wintergreen! What the hell is “sparkling mint”? Pure filth, that’s what.
• Okay, last rant: outsourced customer service. No… first off, not being able to find a contact number on a company’s website and having to do a Google search to get this secret number, then calling to talk to someone in India who won’t get off their script to have a real conversation with you about the issue you’re having, that may not fall under said list of scripts. Look, I’ve seen “Office Tigers” and it makes me sad. I also know our unemployment rate is ridiculous and these companies get tax breaks to send jobs overseas for people who can’t even do their damn job. I would rather pay a bit more for products/services to actually have a more secure America and better customer service.

•  I really need to start getting into the habit of keeping my camera with me. I see so many things when I’m driving around that require me pulling over and getting a shot but my camera’s always at home.

• We think the kitten may be at least partially deaf. Either that or he’s capable of completely ignoring every loud or high-pitched noise.
• When did calling a woman a “slut” turn into this “slut shaming” fiasco? Look, I’m a feminist through and through, which is why I’ll call a woman a slut just as fast as I’ll call a man one. It goes both ways. A woman who knowingly goes after taken men, a woman who is “exercising her sexual freedom” by indiscriminately sleeping around with a ton of dudes, hoochies, harlots, and hos… call me old-fashioned but they’re sluts sluts sluts.

• The bf stayed home sick last Monday and took the plunge, starting the sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica. Well, were in it to win it. 1.5 weeks later and we watched 75 episodes! Oh my gods it’s frackin nuts!

• I’ve been avoiding looking at the Resort 2012 collections like the plague.
• Wedding invitations on Facebook! Are you kidding me?! Okay, I know invitations can be pricey but a simple piece of card stock on your home computer is better than a damn Facebook invite. Eliminate an extra stamp and have people rsvp over the phone or email. Also, it’s not like people stand around comparing invites at the wedding. They don’t even need to be the same. You can get discounted packs at TJ Maxx and stuff. This wedding is going to be a real piece of work. Bf asked if he could wear a tuxedo t-shirt. I may just get him one.
• I took the tips off and let my nails breathe for a few days with no polish and they all broke. Then I got sick and didn’t care so, no nail posts for a week or so.
• Another thing I gave up on for over a week was my skirt/dress wearing challenge. I didn’t shave my legs for week so, can you blame me? If I could’ve gotten away with a muumuu though, I totally would have.

• If this Casey Anthony murder trial ends with a hung jury, I’m going to be so damn mad!
• I am sick and tired of people who ride their bikes in the middle of the road in my town. Oh, and mopeds too. If you can’t go the speed limit, you need to move over!

• This past Sunday we went to Broad Appétit, a food festival in Richmond on Broad Street. Over 60 chefs from local restaurants set up booths offering $3 sample plates of 2-4 dishes from their establishments. The portions were generous, the street was packed, and the weather was perfect. My fave dish was the mango glazed prawns with a bean salad and beet sauce from an Indian place called Lehja. It ended up making 2nd place in the competition! I wish this festival was twice a year.

• I got the Poketo! Clover planner in mint! It’s going to be a life saver and is soooooo cute!

The only thing it needs are some divider tabs. How cute are these index stickers!?

• I used to look up to these rock video babes for fashion, hair and makeup inspiration when I was little! Ha! My mom’s friend’s daughter was about 10 years older than me and a major hair metal chick – crazy black hair and perfect cat eyes. She ended up giving me her glow-in-the-dark leopard Chuck Taylors and a motorcycle jacket when I was about 12. She was my hero.
• Hey y’all! You need to keep one of these in your purse! Just rub it on your foot where your shoe is irritating and voila! (It’s called either Rub Relief or Miracle Shield – I think they’ve changed the name.)

I will walk across searing asphalt to have a woman with her Jeep-sized stroller stop dead in front of me and look around aimlessly. There will be screaming kids, long lines, and a long walk uphill both ways if we want to escape, but we can’t because we have to help haul everything. The only thing I have to look forward to is chicken on a stick and the best onion rings I’ve ever had in my life. We also need to haul ass back to Richmond so I don’t miss Broad Appetit on Sunday!

• Are you following the adventures of Mama Biscuit? She’s a rescue pug who had been bred excessively at a puppy mill. Her parents are two adorable men who are giving her the best life ever. It really is pretty ridiculous.

(That’s like the horse head I died over at Home Goods over a year ago. Wish I had bought it!)
