I’ve been really bad lately about buying lots of nail polish but not actually doing my nails.
I did manage to squeeze 2 in in the past few weeks of feeling like grim death (this is the cold that will not go away).
This plum color is some brand called Pro 10 that I can only find at CVS. It’s super cheap and the racks have been 75% off. I think they’re getting rid of it. I can see why. It took 4 thin coats to get it even but this lasted an entire week before looking really bad. I stamped with an old bottle (like over 10 years old) of L’Oreal antique gold. Ulti approved.
Sorry for the bad pic. I hadn’t had my coffee yet. This is 3 coats of Revlon Blue Lagoon and 1 coat of LA Girl Glitter Addict in Nostalgic (can be found at Rite Aids). The teal glitter isn’t showing up in the pic but it’s pretty rad.
Rite Aid was having one of their BOGO sales so I swiped up a bunch of new Revlon nail polish colors.
This one, Starry Pink, was a thick chalky disaster. 4 goopy coats and it still looks splotchy in certain light. It’s not sheer enough to layer and I didn’t want to add a topcoat to the 4 I already had on so no stamping on that rough surface. And that’s that.
Just sharing a few things that I’m really diggin right now.
My hair is baby fine and stick straight so to get some great body at my roots, I’ve been adding a small amount of this to my roots and halfway down while my hair is still damp, before I blow dry. My hair gets oily looking fast and this extends my hair a day by just fluffing with a dryer and brush. It doesn’t feel like I have anything in my hair either. Love love this stuff!
At $47, I doubt I will get the full-size of this foundation but holy moly the sample was amazing! Perfect flawless coverage and a little goes a long way.
For removing glitter polish, those jars with sponge and acetone are the best. The rough sponge surface helps remove glitter much easier than a cotton ball and they last a loooong time. I think any brand will do.
This is a mixed review – Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter. I was thinking this would be a sheer glossy lip balm of sorts. Nope. It’s almost opaque and what you see in the tube is what you get on your lips. It’s also super moisturizing and shiny right when you put it on but dries out like lipstick soon after. So, if you see a color you like, grab one but expect lipstick.
I slipped a few normal manicures in between the Christmas ones. It was all getting to be a bit much. Now I’m all caught up.
This is Orly Pink Chocolate with some pink Sally Girl glitter on top. The teeny bottle of Sally glitter is pretty much the same as Essie Luxeffects pink glitter in A Cut Above.
This is a perfect deep rose for any occasion where you can’t go too crazy.
All my nails went to hell and had to be chopped. This is either white fishnet over pewter or a sparkly snake.
I’m a snaaaaaaake!
And this is the China Glaze Trendsetter with the dark brown Julep tiger stamp.
3 days later and it still looks great!
No plans for NYE so, I probably won’t do a big glitter explosion.
Did you hit up the sales on the 3rd most popular shopping day of the year? I heard some crazy stories about chaotic clothes shopping in the actual stores with things being picked over or deals not being all that great. I’m pretty set on clothes right now but I did check out the sales online. There wasn’t a damn thing I wanted! Stores were still hocking summer stuff as their super deals.
My big thing is to get wrapping supplies and decorations on clearance. I hit 2 Wal-Marts (really looking for elusive vacuum bags) and 1 Target. Women were cart blocking like crazy at 9am at Target but I manged to squeeze myself in.
I got all of this for $25! The platter is ceramic and there are even some cat toys for next year!
Love that polka dot wrapping paper. It’s fun to find things you can use year round but I wasn’t so lucky this year.
On Tuesday I also hit Sally Beauty Supply and scored on nail polish. 50% off already marked down stuff. That’s what I’m talking about! I got these 6 polishes for $6!!
The first is China Glaze Trendsetter. I’ve wanted this polish for a long time but it’s hard to find. Love the weird colors.
From L to R: China Glaze Trendsetter, CG Skyscraper, CG Haunting, Finger Paints Military Green, FP Catwalk Queen, Orly Monroe’s Red
Isn’t it ridiculous, all the planning, thoughtfulness, errand running, generosity and cheer… then the stress sets in… and you’re so happy it’s all over? I managed to survive with only one meltdown!
I hope everyone’s holiday was happy. Things were great around here.
Last Christmas was on a weekday and since I spend weekdays taking care of my mom, David and I opened presents at midnight. I was hoping to do a normal Christmas morning opening of gifts this year but at 9pm on Saturday, we both lost all control. We’re friggin adults and adults get to do what they want, right? Damn right!
So yeah! Presents! Then on Christmas morning I got up early while he was still in bed, got restless and went to my parents’ house earlier than planned. I spent about 4 hours there, picked up Chinese food (best idea ever!) and chowed down with them, brought more presents home & Chinese for the bf, took a long bath, watched tv and took it easy. Then we went for a walk.
a Christmas peacock!
alley cat
indoor cat
love!
Plans for Monday are hitting up Target and Wal-Mart for some after Christmas clearance shopping. I need more bows, tags & tissue paper.
So… onto the good stuff!
My fave gifts from mom were those brown leather boots and a train case for my make-up. (Finally! I had been putting it off but the cat keeps knocking my stuff over, in the middle of the night, of course.) The boots gave me a wicked blister on our walk but they need to be broken in eventually.
From David, I got the Emjoi Micro-pedi foot buffer thing (love love this!), an ice cream maker (plus a mini pie maker from his sis – they’re trying to kill me!)… and apparently, a few other things didn’t get here on time. Drats!
What did you do and what did you guys get for Christmas!!??
I grabbed a mini bottle of China Glaze Ruby Pumps for $2 at Sally last week and added a green accent nail with some glitter. An accent in gold or silver would be sweet too!
November was so warm. I’m actually looking forward to some snow!
And yes, I’m losing my mind…
That deer stamp just wouldn’t work. I bet I tried 20 times until I got it all on the stamper. Then I went to bed and realized I hadn’t put snow on my trees and got back up and added it. Losing it, I tell ya!
I never leave the house without my eyes done and lately, I’ve had a few people ask me to teach them how to do cat eyes. This is my pathetic attempt to draw diagrams with my mouse.
The main thing to keep in mind is step 3 – the tail. Following the line of your lower edge is ideal. This is what gives your eye some tilt. It should also point to the end of your eyebrows, if you follow standard eyebrow rules, which frames the lid.
Whether using liquid eyeliner with a brush or felt tip, or using a slanted brush and gel liner – it’s never a one-stroke process. I always have to take the tip and touch up all over the place. Some days my hands, eyeliner and eyes cooperate like magic. Other days I’m ready to throw everything out the window.
I also recommend taking some black shadow and rubbing it along your upper lashes to cover up any gaps that your lashes can cause. It covers a multitude of sins.
Here’s a great tutorial showing both liquid (felt tip) and gel liners:
