- To throw me off the scent, David gave me an early Valentine’s Day present on Saturday – he had this pendant made for me by Nanopod on etsy. She made some extra white ones and there are other colors too!

my milk glass heart!!!
- I believe it was Julia who told me about this amazing doll house blog Otterine. The maker of these unbelievable doll houses goes into great detail showing you her process.
I mean, c’mon!!
- The fiance’s (so weird to say that!) parents are coming to visit for about 5 days at the end of the month. They’re closing on their old house in Northern VA but have already moved to Georgia. His sis (who I adore) and her husband are coming at the end (easier to meet in the middle from New Jersey). Of course I’m stressing out. I have an epic list of cleaning tasks and grocery shopping and cooking to do but, I’m not adding this to the “minus” section. They’re fun and I know it means a lot to David to have them come. We’re going to have a good time celebrating their house selling and our engagement.

- Virginia government is pushing to make it mandatory to have an ultrasound before an abortion. When I first heard about it, I wondered what the big deal was. It seems like a medically necessary procedure to see how far along a woman is, to see where the egg has attached in the uterus, to basically let the doctors know what they’re dealing with. I’ve mentioned before that I had an abortion about 14 years ago. An ultrasound was part of the procedure. Thing is – my doctor made that decision. Why does a LAW need to be involved in any of this? Apparently pro-lifers think this can be used as some sort of psychological tactic to change a woman’s mind. Well, I wasn’t forced to look at it. What doctor would do that? My decision was already made and a tiny pin dot on a fuzzy black and white screen certainly wasn’t going to arouse feelings of maternal longing. I’m especially resentful of the extreme right-wingers making statements that women who have sex for enjoyment should suffer the consequences, that an abortion is mainly a lifestyle convenience. Are you kidding me? Why can’t women and their doctors be allowed to make informed decisions in private, and keep the goddamn government out of it?

FTR, the teeth necklace from Nanopod is now on my birthday list. When I was still in art school, I was OBSESSED with anatomical art (well, I still am, really), and I did a pen-and-ink drawing of teeth that had been stapled into the gums. If I find my sketchbook, I’ll scan a copy of it and post it to my blog.
There’s also this artist who has a ring made out of teeth that I want: http://www.etsy.com/listing/55548147/sterling-silver-and-human-tooth-ring. I’m such a weirdo!

I saw the Nanopod teeth and loved them too! I love that creepy stuff as well! The link you added isn’t working anymore but I’m sure it’s rad! Yes! I’d love to see your drawings. I gave my killer sketchbook to an ex to help him learn to draw and never got it back. So bummed.
you are engaged! congratulations!!!
and family / in-law visits are stressful, but you will feel better if you make a list and get everything done in time. at least i think you will! :)
that dollhouse is amazing. i want one! my grandpa made one for my oldest sister, and it has been passed along to all the young chickadees since then. dollhouses are fabulous. :)
and these retarded right-wingers need to give it a rest. the saying “if you don’t want an abortion, DON’T HAVE ONE” says it all. i don’t know why they can’t just leave everyone else ALONE.
My dad made a dollhouse for me too! He got those little wooden furniture kits and I played with it for years. I kinda want to redo it but have no room right now.
I saw a great montage of all the Repubs attacking Obama’s health plan, saying stuff like “The government needs to stay out of your health care… it should be between you and your doctor… etc” and then they followed it with them all pushing for this ultrasound thing. It was HILARIOUS! Gotta love the hypocrisy.
Dude, the milk glass heart is so thoughtful! Nice job, David.
The abortion debate is so ridiculous to me. I don’t think I could handle having one (unless it was a really messed up sitch), but I’m glad that it’s an option, and I just don’t get how it’s ANYONE’S business.
It’s funny now, as we get older, the abortion thing kinda goes off the table. My bff called when she was pregnant with her 1st girl and told me. My reaction – WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO?!! She was all – I’M MARRIED!! I’M KEEPING IT! I felt like an ass but yeah, things change. I still don’t want that option taken from anyone else AND if it was a terrible situation for myself.
LOL dude! I think I was the first in my circle of girlfriends to actually have a kid on purpose. That was the first sign we were getting old!
Love the milk glass heart! Such a clever gift idea, too!
And the ultrasound issue is obnoxious. From what I’ve heard, the doctor will be forced to conduct the ultra sound, make the woman listen for the heartbeat if there is one/look at the screen and then be asked if they’re SURE they want an abortion. It’s just one more way to try to control our bodies and I’m really, really, really not okay with it all.

It makes me SO ANGRY Terra. I haven’t been this mad in a long time. I also heard that it goes on your med record if you refuse to look at the screen, that Drs have NO choice in the matter. And for being so anti-government involved in health care, they sure are a bunch of damn hypocrites. I mean, are they gonna pay for this unnecessary ultrasound? OMG SO MAD!
YES! This exactly.
