After 3+ years of being together, he popped the question!!!!
So, here’s the story -
We, of course, have talked about getting married. We knew we wanted to and honestly, I was starting to get frustrated after so much time. A year into us dating, his mom was already hounding us. We talked about all those important things you discuss with someone you want to spend the rest of your life with – goals, finances, values, kids, how to raise said kids, division of labor… the type of ring I wanted…
I wanted an emerald. It’s his birthstone and of course, I have to be different. So we looked around online and I showed him styles I liked and left the rest up to him. From what I knew by hints he had dropped (boy can’t be sneaky to save his life – good thing), I thought he wanted to propose in snow. Of course, we’ve had the warmest winter in ages. Just my damn luck. So I waited and waited and watched the weather reports like a hawk.
Christmas… New Years… all came and went. Valentine’s Day was coming up. I was starting to get a grip and quit torturing myself about it, as women are wont to do.
Monday, the day before Valentine’s Day, my parents sent me home from work early. David had taken the day off so when I got home, he suggested we go out to lunch and go to my favorite park, Maymont. I was thrilled to go out with him in the sunlight on a weekday. We got burgers at Carytown Burger and Fries and went to the Japanese Gardens part of the park – my magical spot.
Apparently he had tried to reserve a carriage ride but they never called him back! So, we’re crossing the stepping stones of the koi pond and he pulls me onto his stone wanting a big hug and then gets down on one knee and there ya go!
I’m honestly having a hard time remembering what exactly happened. I know I said yes, cried, went deaf, was scared we would fall in… it was pretty awesome.
And here’s the ring:
ridiculous
That Saturday, when I was out running errands on my own, he had to get his “oil changed” and went to my parents’ house to “ask permission”. Adorable.
I’m thrilled! No idea when we’re getting married. I’m just trying to enjoy this for a while before stressing out about plans. I will tell you that there’s going to be minimal stress. No big ceremony, no big reception. 5 guests tops, if any. Yes, I’ve already picked out a dress… I did that in summer of last year. Ha! I’m hoping for everything – officiant/photographer/dinner/lil cake and weekend stay – to be done at The Jefferson Hotel or some other place similar and accommodating here in Virginia. We shall see.
So that’s that!
Congrats to Nicole & Dan who also got engaged this past weekend! They’re so perfect for one another!
Love is in the air!

THANKS SO MUCH LADIES!!! I’m so excited!!!
I am genuinely happy for you (which is saying a lot because for the most part whenever I read about someone getting engaged via my computer, massive eye rolling is doomed to follow). But yes, I am happy for you because you are awesome married or not.
Yay for being engaged!!! I have to tell you when Dan saw this post, he said “aw, Carytown Burgers and Fries AND Maymont!!” Haha! I think someone was a little jealous. ;)
Congrats to you and David!!
That’s hilarious! Let me know next time you guys are in town and I’ll get Dan a burger! ha!
