In case you were wondering… I didn’t get that prescription for diet pills filled and I’m pretty sure I won’t.
I have changed my diet dramatically in the past week though and I’m feeling great about it.
First off… I’ve gained over 20 pounds in the past 3 years. I guess that’s what domestic bliss and not being a bar hopping drunk who gets her nutrition from Guinness will do for you.
I also never eat breakfast. My eating habits have been terrible and I don’t usually have a full meal until dinner. I may mindlessly eat a 1/2 pack of cookies and a ton of candy during the day but it’s all worthless. By dinner I’m starving and go for fatty foods.
The new routine every single day for the past week has been 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast. After noon, I have little snacks every hour or so like a banana, an apple with peanut butter, a Larabar or a hunk of cheese. Dinner has been salads with chicken.
My energy levels are huge! I’m not feeling compelled to down cookies and cheese steaks because I’m not really hungry.
Of course, I can’t have salads for dinner for the rest of my life so, I’m going to have to watch portion sizes when I really get to cooking again.
I’m also obsessed with Hola Fruta sherbert for dessert. There’s barely a bad thing in it!

So that’s that. Little high-protein noms throughout the day. I don’t own a scale but I’m already noticing some tummy shrinking.
Now, I need to add some real exercise to the mix.

That’s awesome!! It’s amazing how making a good choice for breakfast sets the tone for the rest of the day. Also, oatmeal for breakfast is awesome and some serious energy. Hummus has been my munching snack. When I feel like just snacking, I eat hummus.

Thank you! I keep forgetting about hummus and oatmeal! I also love cream of wheat!
good for you! i am on a never ending diet i feel like! i do oatmeal in the morning too, it’s very filling. also, i try not to keep any sweets in the house. my one weakness is baked goods–i love to bake! loosing weight is so hard!

I am a sucker for baked goods too! My parents always have cakes and cookies in the house and it’s sooo easy to shove it in my face but I’ve been really really good for a week and I don’t feel like tortured. It’s been kinda great.
I’m so glad you didn’t get the pills. I hate that doctors just throw pharmaceuticals at everything.
I know it sounds cliche, but I think this is all part of getting older. Now that I’m in my 30s, I find my metabolism seems to be constantly changing and I have to keep adjusting my diet and exercise habits to keep up.
Breakfast is great though. I never understood how people get by without it.
Thanks Danielle. I hated the idea of those pills. If I did lose those 8 pounds, I’d just gain them right back by not making real changes. I’d rather just do it right the first time. Oh, and I HATE feeling jittery.
Yes, it’s definitely my metabolism changing. In 2003 I weighed 103. 8 years later at age 32, I’m 143. I was fine with it until this 10 lb jump in a year. That freaked me out since it’s been steadily going up anyhow. This last year’s gain was just super fast. Gotta adjust and move on.
Go you! Here’s to healthy changes that make a big impact!!

Yaaay! As disappointing as it may be, I too have come to the realization that I feel better when I eat better and get tons of sleep. It’s so lame when everything everyone tells you turns out to be TRUE. I have improved my diet greatly in the past two years. (I needed to, I am no spring chicken).

dude. i need some MAJOR tummy shrinkage! i struggle with this shit all the time. food is soooooo so good! but i need to cut back. i usually do good (or semi-good) with the eating, but then the exercise fails. or vice versa. i need to get the stars to align and do BOTH.
i write this as i am eating my lunch, which includes lays potato chips. gah!
I sooo feel you on not being able to do the diet & exercise at the same time. It’s like one thing at a time please! I can’t handle all this goddamn discipline!
Can I have your speed if you’re not using it? ;-)

Go girl! I haz the proud for you.
For me, eating right makes all the difference in the world. Exercising is great for me too, but I know if I watch my portion sizes and don’t eat awful things, I’ll feel 100 times better and stay thin.
Also, gelato and sherbert and two things that make “dieting” easier. I just can’t live without dessert.
Breakfast does make a difference, you are right. I hate exercising. Hate it. I don’t mind going for a walk when the weather is nice, or hitting a tennis ball around for fun, but if it comes to exercise, forget it. But, as I get older, I know I need to exercise. So…(and I’ve posted about this) the Wii Just Dance series. Honestly, it is so much fun and is a total cardio workout. You will be sweating. If you can get it, do it. You’ll actually want to do it because it is fun, even if you look stupid. The bonus is a great cardio workout without being a boring, stupid, lunges, some person yelling at your form type of workout. You just dance and follow the moves. And you’ll want to do all the songs and try them out, which…leads to more calories burned. It’s a freaking miracle.
Bf is getting me a weighted hula hoop for Christmas and I’ve been trying out the On Demand workouts a bit before he gets home. I hate it so much too. I’d much rather get my exercise DOING something.
I’m thinking about getting a Kinect for his X-box and getting some of the games for that!
There’s nothing wrong with getting your nutrition from Guinness. But only once in a while.
