Soooo, I joined Julep. It’s one of those monthly subscriptions where you get nail polish. I found some codes online “FIRST5″ or “INTRO5″ that gave me everything you see below for $5. You take a quiz and are shown your “style” but I took the quiz over a few times until I got a pair of colors I wanted – aqua and chocolate brown. They also sent a full-size glycolic hand scrub, a sample pack of it and a sample of spf30 hand cream. Packaging was darling.

So, before I even got my first box of goodies, it was time to review my next selection. If you don’t like what they show you, you request a “shelf pull” and in a day or so, they’ll send you an email with all the other options and you email back with the one you want.

Oh, and boxes after that first $5 one are $19 each and honestly, I’m not too cool with that. Shipping is free and you can cancel any time before the 25th of the month. You also get a 20% off code on any additional purchases and those will ship free. Oh, and $15 credits if you get friends to join using your link.

So, I checked out the selection for my next month and they were going to send me a killer mustard color with a makeup bag (don’t need) and a bronze plumping lip gloss (didn’t like). I didn’t know that other types of makeup were even an option with this company.

I requested the “shelf pull” just to see what they offered and they let me pick from all the other styles (same thing – different colors) plus an option for 3 polishes of their choice. I went ahead and got the polishes (dark blue, dark green and burgundy) but I’m not sure if I’m going to do another month. The initial $5 thing was awesome though and I think you should take advantage of it!

I’m on the fence with it too. I love the idea of getting stuff in the mail every month. I was not happy with the shipping time on my first order, but this second one seems to have shipped much faster. I was also not happy with the options for the sets this month. I do not need another makeup bag and I don’t want lip gloss when I signed up specifically for nail polish (it’s not Birchbox). So I opted for the 3 polish set, which is not too bad of a deal, but I got a medium green color in my first box and now I will be getting a dark green in the second box. That’s a lot of green, to me.

It’s probably nit-picky (but we do this type of stuff at my job so I think about it more than average) – the shelf pull process is cumbersome. Why not just include a link to see the other boxes right away? It seems like that would save a ton of time and effort on the customer’s part and on Julep’s end.

I think I am going to go for one more month and then probably quit. I could go buy two new OPI polishes per month (of my exact choosing!) for less than the price of the Julep box. I’d get more control over the colors, but I would miss out on a little bit of the fun.

Agree with you on everything and yeah, the surprise adds to the fun but nail polish is something you already have a bunch of so I would def like multiple options from the get-go and keep the make-up out of it! We’re all gonna see in another few weeks about Julep!

I emailed Julep basically my entire comment above. I’m not sure they would DO anything, but can’t hurt. It’s such a cool idea that I don’t want to have to quit, but for the money it’s not really working out.

I cannot wait to hear what their response is!!!
Birchbox and Incoco were both great when those nail decals didn’t work so hopefully Julep will have excellent customer service! Keep me posted!
