I’ve been spending like a drunk sailor on shore leave. It’s all been little things here and there but it adds up and combine that with some stupid math mistake and adding life insurance to my monthly bills, I’m flat ass broke right now.
It will all even out at the end of the month but still, my mom’s birthday is on October 3rd and then there’s Christmas coming at the speed of light.
I need to stop thinking about ME ME ME and start thinking about giving to others. I also need to lose about 5-10 pounds so I don’t have to buy larger sizes making my current wardrobe, unwearable.
I don’t really have any fashion goals this Fall/Winter. Everything I have still feels current.
So, here’s a public announcement of all the things I DO NOT NEED!!!
I will not be buying any of these things until the year is over:
- makeup – with the exception of liquid eyeliner, that always needs replacing
- nail polish – really, anything nail related. I have enough.
- boots
- heels
- blazers, dresses, trousers, jeans, mainly clothes in general – except for basic white tees, which can’t survive a month without me ruining them.
- coats, scarves, gloves, etc – fully stocked for a nuclear winter
- body lotions – I have a surplus and I’m going to use it all until it’s gone
- jewelry
- craft project supplies – I will try to be creative with what I already have
- goofy impulse buys like cat stickers, notepads, hello kitty underpants…
- things that are clearance, just because they’re cheap and I could use it one of these days.
You get the idea.
What can you totally do without but you keep buying?

Sandals.
I can’t stop buying them. It’s insane because where I live, I only get to wear them about 4 or 5 months out of the year. Right now, I am forcing myself to NOT look in shoe stores.

Yes! Sandals too! They’re so cheap and easy to pick up! Pretty much shoes in general but I’m about to give my black flats a proper burial so, I may have to get a new pair of those. Would rather just wear the others I have and make due though.
“I need to stop thinking about ME ME ME and start thinking about giving to others” — but you’d be giving to me by buying jewelry :-D

omg Wendy, I wish! I need to pay my rent first!
Suh- weet Lord. I had a good, long chuckle from your post. And “goofy impulse buys”? hahah.
I am ashamed to admit my list of “Shouldn’t Purchase” includes: Ann Taylor Loft (like random middle aged-looking stuff), Post-in Notes, flavored gum (does anyone need Apple Pie gum?), and shoes.
Sigh.. It’s gonna be a long time til Christmas..haha

love it! Yes, it IS going to be a very long time until Christmas. Financial instability freaks me the heck out though. I gotta do it!
Books from the bargain shelf at Barnes & Noble
Pink nail polish (I am on a mission, but it’s getting ridiculous)
Things from the Gap sale rack
Ice cream

The bargain section at B&N used to get me too! Omg! Now, I don’t keep books. Read and give away…
Sigh, ice cream… oh dear. That’s gotta get curbed too!
Apparently, you’ve been sitting in front of my checkbook register and credit card statements. I just found out I’m WAY OVER my employer reimbursable school budget (to the tune of $1100 out of pocket), but I don’t want to drop the class because I’m so close to finishing. I’ll find the money, but it’s going to be way tight…
I’ve been trying to curb my spending for a while – nothing exorbitant, but I can see all of the little things piling up. I feel like I “need” something, like a new lunch box, bulk groceries (96oz of quinoa, anyone?), a pair of everyday, goes-with-everything shoes…. These are things that definitely get used (not hoarding or anything), but are also delay-able purchases. I need to be better at putting the brakes on…

Oh geez! How on earth did that happen? I hear you on the bulk stuff. I always try to get the best deal by quantity for stuff we use a lot but if I just can’t cut it, I end up getting the smaller size for immediately less/ technically more and it burns!
Writing this list helped. I just had to run to Target for printer ink and passed a bunch of cute shoes and stickers. Since I had made that mental note of NO, I looked and walked away. Kinda sad but the feeling of having some control over my situation felt really good too! Good luck! You can do it!
For me it’s earrings. I’m really addicted and starting to worry. I don’t seem to get enough. On a street stand, on a crafts shop, on a clothing store, (specially) on fashion jewelry stores, it’s like I’m under a spell. I’m finally starting to worry about it because it happened: I’ve left friends waiting because I was picking what I think is the 390th pair of earrings I own. The only thing positive: not searching for gold or silver.
I think it has to do also with the fact that I’ve gained a few pounds and every time I walk into a store, the accessories rack is the only area where I’ll find stuff that doesn’t need me to get undressed and try it, things that take 1 minute to try, not 20 minutes,. Just guessing, but, really I have to stop…
Maybe writing this out will help. I have to remind myself at least once a year to chill out on certain things and it works pretty well. And girl, do I hear you on looking at accessories instead of trying on clothes. Seriously.
Clothing. I can officially not fit anything else in my closet unless I switch to plastic hangers and my clothes deserve the wood (IKEA 8 for $4).
Wood Hangers. Closet is full and I still have a bench ottoman full of them (Anyone want wood hangers?)
Makeup. Except for foundation. Cause that runs out. (Instead of using liquid, go get the Loreal HIP cream liner, throw out the brush it comes with get an eyeliner brush from Target $2.00, et voila, I swear by the stuff, I’ll never go back to regular liquid liner again. And they have nifty colors too)
Jewelry. I wear the same pair od silver skull and xbone studs everyday so no more Oh Cute! crap jewelry from major retailers. From now on I’ll save up for special pieces (from Alchemy of England).
Black heels. You name the style and material and chances are it’s in my closet. (yep even faux ray)
Impulse items. I have a tube of Burt’s Bees chapstick stashed every purse, my car, and almost every room of the house.
