- Thanksgiving weekend is OVER!!! The bf was gone TG morning until Saturday night. I had to be at my parents’ house on Thursday & Friday anyhow. My dad went hunting, mom and I watched the dog show, and I cooked all day. We all had a quiet dinner together and I went home and decorated my apartment.
- Color Splash w/ David Bromstad made the cutest wonky trees on HGTV. The bf and I really wanted to make them ourselves but had no idea where to get the huge birch trunks. He drilled holes in the top half of the wood and then snipped off branches from an artificial tree and made his own! He put fuzzy white garland in clumps on the branches to look like snow! They’re so whimsical and Dr. Seuss-ey! This was the best pic I could find.

- I’m almost done with Christmas shopping! The last few things are easy to get online and 2 stores right next to one another at the last minute.

- Our pet Toki the rat passed away on Thanksgiving. The night before, I thought something was wrong with him. He was having trouble lifting his head to drink water and was sleeping by the water bottle, when usually he curls up with his brother Barnaby. On Thursday morning, I checked on him before I left for my parents’ house. I held him and he let me. He was never the cuddly one. He seemed lifeless. I came home that evening and he was curled up dead. He’s now in the freezer until we can properly bury him. I don’t know what happened and there wasn’t much I could do. Rats can live up to 3 years and he was a little over 1 year old. The bf is taking it kinda hard since he never really had pets as a child. I’ve gone through so many, I feel a little disconnected from it all but, it’s still sad of course. I feel bad for Barnaby having to live the rest of his life out alone. We’re spoiling him rotten.
- I haven’t been able to comment on WordPress blogs for a couple weeks now. No clue what’s going on. I use Firefox and have made sure 3rd party cookies are enabled, logged out and tried to comment etc. When I try to comment the same thing twice, it says that I already said that so… the comments are obviously registering somewhere and disappearing. Anyone know what’s up?

Regarding the last article you linked, I’m not surprised at all, and you know this drives me crazy! I’m going to post all of my tax withholdings for the year after I get my last check on Dec 28, and trust me, you are going to crap your pants, because I did when I looked at my last check, which isn’t even the whole of it. I realize it’s withholdings as opposed to what’s ultimately paid, but I will follow up after I do my taxes, because as a single person, high income, no kids, I don’t get many tax credits, other than my mortgage interest and charitable contributions. I’m going to open up 529 accounts for my nieces and nephew to try and get my $10K tax credit out of that next year. People always talk about loopholes for the rich, but the fact is, there aren’t many when it comes to straight income, and I’m not rich enough to be dealing with offshore accounts and things like that. Straight income gets reported and you have to pay on it. You can’t hide it. I’d rather just pay my $40,000 share of the defecit and be done with it! (I saw some report that I’m too lazy to dig up the link right now that says our defecit is $40K per person or something like that.) I’m paying a heck of a lot more than that to the gov’t, that’s for sure!
Oh man, can’t wait to see this. I prepare all the deductions for my dad’s construction company to give to the tax lady (she knows all the new codes) and oh my god, my father pays a ridiculous amount in taxes every year. Granted, most of it goes to social security but we see where that’s headed.
I’ve heard about the 529 plans. The one issue I know about is that you can’t use it for anything BUT college. If you ever wanted to access the money for something else, there are serious penalties. If the kids didn’t want to go to college or needed it for something else (I think college living expenses are even penalized) you’re kinda stuck. The person recommended a basic diversified investment plan for kids instead.
I want to make that wreath so bad! It doesn’t look like it would be that difficult. Plus, it gives me a reason to buy a glue gun!

I can’t believe you don’t have a glue gun! There’s low temp and high temp. Low temp glue of course has a lower melting point but won’t burn your skin off. If you’re making a wreath for your front door in the summer time, sometimes things will fall off. Just something to keep in mind!
