princess fantasies

Today marks a year and a half for the bf and I. I’m a happy cat. Life is good. Everyone keeps asking us when we’re getting married. I don’t know how to answer that question. It’s definitely something we’ve talked about a lot. We also don’t see the point in spending the equivalent of a down payment on a house on a huge ceremony.

Last night, he caught me watching Say Yes to the Dress. I go in spells of watching this show for various reasons. Mainly, I hate to see women get bullied by their friends and family into buying a dress that really doesn’t suit them. I personally would want to go it alone. Everyone can keep their opinions to themselves. I also like to watch the show and feel a wee bit sorry for myself that I probably won’t have that little girl fantasy of a gigantic wedding realized. I told the bf this last night and he was so cute. He told me that no matter what we do or where we get married, I could where whatever I wanted. That it was my wedding and if I wanted to be covered in rhinestones, I could. I cracked up laughing because that has been my secret fantasy since my friend Stephanie got married in 2005. Rhinestones!

I was a bridesmaid in Stephanie’s wedding and when all of us went to a bridal shop to try on dresses, as soon as I walked in, there was this insane dress on a platform that took my breath away. I was done. It was strapless with a huge drapey skirt. The bodice was completely encrusted with crystals. Totally over-the-top and decadent. It probably cost as much as a new car but my god it was gorgeous. I realize that my practical nature would never allow me to spend that kind of money on a dress that I would only wear once but, it’s fun to fantasize, right?

I searched high and low for a picture of that dress and this is the closest thing I could find… which isn’t even remotely close to the 50 pounds of crystals I have my heart set on.

I’m nowhere near planning for a wedding, but I love the idea of being covered in rhinestones or crystals as well.

Wedding? Mostly, wedding is simply elegant. But the bride got pregnant to plan for a wedding ceremony. I don’t think so if that is good. Or a pride that hide you into debt.
