My god it’s been a long time since I’ve blogged! On June 1st, the boy and I moved into our first place together. It’s an amazing steal in a lovely part of the Fan District. We looked at the place and made the decision so quickly, we had no idea what we had gotten ourselves into. Everything is pretty much fantastic now but, one man’s version of “clean” is another’s version of “despicable”. Also, the building is very very old. It has slowly taken a month to get things presentable. Windowsills and baseboards and radiators needed to be repainted, as well as pantry shelves and linen closet shelves and fireplace mantles and surrounds. The shower rod around the claw foot tub was jerry-rigged with duct tape and way too low. The last (major) thing on the list is replacing the old kitchen floor with some simple linoleum remnant. Some serious measurements need to be taken first. My closet rod fell down twice and finally broke. One receptacle in the living room is on the same electrical circuit as a plug in a neighbor’s place so we frequently have to flip the breaker when it blows, which is almost becoming comical (but not quite). Now a pane of glass in the window in the kitchen we were getting ready to put an AC unit in has fallen out but will be taken care of soon. Being so close to VCU, I’m sure dumb young college kids really don’t care about having a place feel like home, and the landlords are used to this, but ours should be thankful we will be leaving the place in much better shape than it was when we moved in. Next place should be a tree house of this variety! Now for some plusses and minuses:

- The boy’s mother just got back from 7 weeks in Korea. She adorably brought me back a knock off Louis Vuitton Stephen Sprouse scarf. She also brought back hand picked and dried roots from Solomon’s Seal plants for dunggule cha tea, which relaxed me in ways I haven’t felt since I was young raver kid. Seriously.
- Dreams of refinishing amazing furniture finds off Craigslist are dancing through my head.
- One day when I build an amazing doll house, it will be furnished with this modern dollhouse furniture! Holy cow!

- I am trying to catch 3 feral kittens in my parents’ back yard. They are so adorable and really do need to be fixed to end this breeding cycle and placed in loving homes. 3 of my cats have been feral and were the best cats I’ve ever had but damn those suckers are fast!
- I want every shoe in this blog post from Ma Petite Chou.
- Not going to bars and eating out as frequently (we have our own clean kitchen now!) has saved us a substantial amount of money.
- Finding ways around getting a Fan parking permit has been very rewarding.
- 4 more weeks of this summer class and I’m finally done with college! Woohoo!

- What is the big deal about Kuba Kuba? We live quite close to this well-loved restaurant and I am not impressed one bit. They are total seating Nazis, you smell disgusting when you leave the place and everything I have had was a dry tasteless disappointment. Am I missing the one wonderful thing on the menu?
- My disgust for Rachael Ray has not subsided and now I can ad Stacy London to the list of people I want to punch in the face. I really can’t stand gruff cougarish women. The heels and skirts aren’t fooling me a bit… something’s taped up under there.
