strap me in

The Spring couture shows started on Sunday in Paris and lovely eccentric mustached John Galliano revealed his collection for Dior. I’ve  always admired Galliano’s ability to make fantasies a reality with his couture clothing but they are always so excessive and almost like period pieces, there’s just no way you can relate them to real life. His shoes are an entirely different story. I love what this crazy little man does with shoes. I can totally see myself wearing these. The open strappy front is very much like Ann Demeulemeester’s “it” shoe in her S2009RTW collection but I like these so much more.  They are wedge-like but that teeny heel tap could take some getting used to. Still, their center of gravity is what I prefer in a shoe so I don’t think they would be hard to walk in at all. The white and black are my favorites.

While I love looking at crazy heels/shoes, I wish that more designers did better designed flats. I know it’s not as exciting to see how high you can go and how much women will suffer to look good in them. But seeing crazy heels makes me want to see equally crazy flats. They’d probably get more sales because let’s face it…the flat department is kind of untouched.

I definitely agree. Nicholas Kirkwood said that he would be focussing on flats in the near future. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with.

You really do have to seek high and low to find a flat that has any real personality and isn’t simply a round toe with an embellishment. I’m pretty keen on the anklewrap styles that have been out lately and the gladiator doesn’t seem to be going away this summer so, there should be some interesting options coming out soon… hopefully.

Let’s face it, unless you are a masochist or get to sit on your rear all day, extreme heels just aren’t for daily wear. I still love an artistic wedge though!

These are absolutely amazing to look at– though I wonder about the wearability (less in the heel but more in the straps). Beautiful, nonetheless!

Do you think the straps may be too delicate for such a heavy shoe? Since I would never be able to afford them, I will just look at them and sigh! ;)
