no neoprene for baby

A few weeks ago, I wrote about the most interesting, beautiful shoes I had seen in a long time. They were innovative and of the moment and actually wearable and I was going to have these shoes come hell or high water.

Apparently a lot of you out there saw these Report Signature neoprene shoes and are dying for them too because I get a ton of incoming searches every day for: “report signature neoprene shoes”, “where can i find the neoprene boots by report”, “report signature neoprene boot elle” etc…

Well, I immediately wrote to Report and asked when they would be available. Spring was the response. Their website finally updated with the SS2009 shoes recently and my neoprene dream wasn’t featured in any of the campaign photos. I really wanted to find a picture somewhere, anywhere, but I couldn’t find that Elle issue anymore. (I was going to go ahead and buy it just to scan the picture and share it with you.) Two days ago, frustrated to no end, I wrote to Report again and asked them if they could possibly send me a picture along with permission to use it on this blog. (UPDATE: I finally got a pic!)

I was given some sad sad news from a very nice lady. Apparently, Elle magazine sent that issue to print before Report Signature made the decision to not send the “Baird” neoprene style to production. This decision was made because store buyers didn’t show enough interest! This fact alone blows my mind considering the amount of coverage on fashion blogs that neoprene has been given recently. I think some buyers really dropped the ball. Either way, it does appear that they will be offering a black bootie-style pair (that looks like neoprene but I am not sure) with the same wonderful clips which can be seen in the Spring campaign photos and another beautiful pair of black and nude platform sandals that also feature the clips. God, I love those clips! This style is called the “Tocai” and retails for $215.

If you’re still craving the bright splashes of color from those long lost “Bairds”, maybe the neon “Perrin” style will satisfy. Neon is still raging for SS2009! This style retails for $185.

I have called Zappos, Report, Diavolina and Kitson LA to no avail. I’m glad to know that I can end my search for these shoes because I was just like you, determined to have these shoes for summer. As a matter of fact, these are the only shoes I REALLLLY wanted for summer although I have like 250 pairs of shoes already. This is such a dissapointment. Maybe the manufacturers should ask the public their opinion before deciding against something that the public is dying for. How sad, I really could just cry!
